Recently in a small town much like our own in Michigan a girl was supposedly elected to homecoming court. She went home and was thrilled, later that night she found out that it was all a joke. That's where things took a bad turn. Her mom found her in her room crying, she told her mom everything that happened. Then, Whitney Cropp (16 years old), claims that she had thoughts of killing herself over this. This is where I thought what is wrong with this girl? How poorly do you have to think of yourself in order to want to kill yourself over something like that. Then this girl makes Yahoo's front page, her local stores and shops are giving her an amazing dress and a whole makeover all for free, because a group of seniors played a homecoming prank and she wanted to kill herself. So what is wrong with this girl? Who knows but something totally is.

There's a new panda in town
Recently at the National Zoo, a female panda named Mei Xiang gave birth to a small panda cub. The panda is supposedly doing well according to CBS This Morning. The reason that this birth is so important is because pandas are among some of the worst breeders in the animal kingdom. There was a little sadness behind this story though, Mei Xiang has had 5 false pregnancies in the last 5 years. The bear is so small that it is supposed to be the size of your hand. The panda cannot be examined by the panda team for a few weeks. And in a few months the public will be able to view the panda for the first time. Mei Xiang's first cub Tai Shan (born in 2005) was sent back to China in 2010. He was sent back because of the Smithsonian's panda loan agreement, which states "that any cub born at the zoo must return to China for breeding." Only four zoos in the US have panda programs. Pandas will live forever.

Al Qaeda's al-Shihri is dead
Recently there was another leader from Al Qaeda that was killed, his name was Said al-Shihri. He was Al Qaed's second in command on the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Shihri was held in many high security prisons, his death is supposed to be a huge blow to Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. During the mission in Hadramawt Valley al-Shihri and 6 other terrorists were shot. There has already been some speculation behind the attack, one of them is that even though the Yemeni military claims that the terrorists were killed in "an operation by the armed forces," some local security officials claim that he was killed by a drone strike. These are questions that we may never see answered, but either way a death like this is very important in the end of terrorism.

USA Mens basketball team
The USA mens basketball team won the gold medal this year at the 2012 London Olympics. USA was picked to win the tournament all the way, but of course they were, they had some of the best players ever on their team. The team consisted of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant just to name a few. They also had one of the best college coaches ever, Mike Krzyzewski. After reading most of those games, you know that USA was bound to win the gold. In the games before the gold medal game the USA destroyed their opponents, they actually set the Olympic record for points in a game. Once it came to the gold medal game the USA showed how they can come together as a team, it was a tight game, and Spain was the second team in the tournament rankings (far behind team USA), but the USA pulled away in the fourth quarter and won the gold medal for the second year in a row. This could be the start of a long run of golds for team USA.
